Lego Merry-go-round

So with the weather still pretty crappy yesterday, the boys and I had plenty of time for more Lego. The kids like me to build amusement rides for them. I have built Merry-go-rounds before, but this time I wanted the horses to go up and down.

I used some technic's parts for the poles, I then needed a way to have them go up and down. Then it hit me, I could build some ramps underneath and then have the bottom of the poles rounded off. As it turns the bottom of the poles would ride the ramps.

The next issue was the top. Every time they Merry-go-round would turn, the horses would spin. I used some more technic parts to build the top to stop this from happening.

All in all a fun project to work on. Here it is in motion.

Lego Iron Man

So as the wife was leaving for work the other day, the kids asked can we play lego tomorrow. "Sure" I said. The wife said "Make me Iron Man", ummm ok.

I did some research and found a few awesome models that others had already done.

I panicked, and then built this....

Trip to the city

Today is my last day of holidays before I have to head back to work next week, so I took the boys on an outing to the city. We normally head to Darling Harbour, but for something different today we headed to The Rocks.

We found the Discovery Museum, which has lots of interactive displays and artifacts dug up from the site. We then headed to the Harbour Bridge. You can actually climb up the pylons (all 200 steps) You get a pretty good view from the top.

After all of this the hunger pains started to kick in. Once we finished at Maccas, we stopped off at the Apple Store. The kids had a blast playing with the iphones. I took a video and uploaded it to youtube from the store

So today I took the kids to their first Comic Book convention today. We all headed out to SupaNova at Olympic Park this morning. Trudy decided to skip it, but gave the kids strict instructions, if dad starts to nerd out too much to get him to calm down.

We saw heaps of Star Wars stuff, some Sega stuff (the kids met Sonic) and of course lots and lots of Comic.

We also saw plenty of "people" dressing up as their favorite comic/cartoon characters. See the rest of the pictures here.

MS Fun Run/Walk

Wow what a massive day we have had today. We all got up early and headed to the city for the MS Fun Run.

We would have had heaps of time to warm up, but Dad got lost on his way to Hyde Park. I mean its not like I work there everyday and know where I am going! :)

Anyway we got there will about 2 minutes to spare. We crossed the start line about 10.10am and finished about 11.40am

What a weekend!

Wow, what a massive weekend we all had. I spend all day Saturday moving my little Bro into his new house. Then on Sunday we had a equally massive day.

We headed into the City early to see Auntie Ang cross the line for the Sydney Half Marathon.

We then spend the afternoon in Hyde Park having a nice picnic.

After heading home we had about 45 minutes to relax and then headed out to the Little Athletics presentation night. Both the boys got trophies which was great. Mum and Dad are very proud.

Today we headed over to Gladesville for a Birthday Party. My godson Elijah turned one. It doesnt seem that long since I had seen him last, but he has grown up heaps!

By the end of the party the poor little guy had just had so much fun that he needed a nap. He slept through all the Happy Birthday singing :(

Trailer Mashups

I love a good mashup. Some of my favorites are when someone takes a movie trailer and changes the genre to something else.

1. Scary Mary (Mary Poppins as a horror flick)

2. The Shining (but as a romantic comedy)

3. Titanic (as one of those Japanese Horror Flicks, might of made the movie a bit more watchable!)

Kitchen floors done... kinda

Over a year and a half ago, we "finished" doing up our Kitchen. (home owners out there know that a house is never really finished, there is always something to do) Well we left the floor, we would do that later.

This weekend was that later.

I sanded and Trudy vacuumed and mopped. Once it was ready to go, she did the edges and I mopped on the main bit. Here are the 2 before shots.

Looks good hey! We stayed off it for about 20 hours. We decided that one coat would be OK, so we started moving everything back in. While moving in the fridge we scratched a big line in the new stain!!! ARRRRRG

Good thing I planned to have a few days off in the next two weeks, guess I will be putting on that second coat after all. :)

Cultural Trip To The City

Guitar Hero Cymbal Jack Fix

My second born child, bless him, was a bit bored the other day and spun the cymbal on our Guitar Hero drums until the audio jack was separated from the cable in the drum pads. I was greeted with some bare cables. ARG!!

So off the the internet for a fix I go. I couldn't find any good guides on how to fix it. So I got a new 3.5 mm mono audio jack from Tandy. (see these ones at JayCar. Same thing I got from Tandy)

The next issue was where to solder the wires. With a bit of help from my mate Spud, I worked it out. There are 2 connections on the jack. A shorter lug and a longer one. The internal wire (it will be covered in red plastic probably) needs to be soldered to the shorter lug and the braiding around the outside needs to be soldered to the longer lug.

Do it like that and you will be rocking out in no time :)

Well 2008 is behind us all now!

Yesterday we decided to head into the city and check out the fireworks. We headed to the Powerhouse Museum first to check out the new Star Wars Exhibit (more for Dad then the kids!)

Then we all headed down to Circular Quay to try and get a spot. We got there about 4.30pm/5pm. We managed to score a pretty good spot. We had a good view of the Opera House, the bridge and the Harbour.

So with about 4 hours of waiting to go, we set about having dinner, playing DS and just chatting. (Mum and dad snoozed)

At 9pm the fireworks started. Most of the view was being blocked by a tree and nothing was happening on the bridge! At about 9.10pm it was all over. Over 4 hours of waiting for a 10 minute show! I think we might skip it next year.

Trip to the Kiama markets

On Sunday we all piled in the car early to check out the Kiama Black Beach Markets. As usual they where great. I even managed to get Mum a birthday present!

After the markets we headed to Kendalls Beach. It took a little bit to get used to the water, but once we where in it was very warm :)

Of course a trip to Kiama wouldnt be complete without a trip to the Blowhole. Due to the swell and the rough ocean, the blowhole was really going off!

4097 I can't believe it I made it! I rode my bike (well it was my brothers bike actually) 90km from St Peters in Sydney to Wollongong!

It was the perfect day for a long ride, not too hot, not too cold. I started with a bunch of friends from work about 8am and finished about 3pm.

My favourite bits? The fast downhill parts in the National Park and the finish line.

My not so favourite bits? The hills :(

It was a great day and I am already thinking about next year.
