In the spa

2884The deck is all done. The last coat of stain has been applied and the new outdoor setting has been setup. Needless to say I think most of the relatives are going to be having Christmas at our house this year!

Deck update

It has been a few weeks since I posted some images. The deck is now down.

It has now been stained. Can't wait for the weekend when I can get out there and enjoy it!

Its that time of year again

2838I cant believe it. It is nearly Christmas time again. This weekend we dragged out the tree. Trudy got the Christmas CD (the one that only gets played once a year!) and we started setting up the tree.

2854 As usual a fight broke out over who should place the star at the top.

2869We also set up the train. The whole house has got that Christmas spirit now!

The end of Movember

Evil Gmail Spam

2601When checking my Gmail today I noticed my spam folder had 666 bits of spam. I always knew spam was evil!

Saturday, November 3, 2007

This year I am participating in Movember. In this month (you know the one that used to be called November) men across the globe grow marvelous moustache's. Moustache's get sponsored and the money raised goes to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and Beyond Blue.

2597  So this morning I shaved off the goatee and started. My face feels all naked!!

Wanna sponsor me?

I will update you all with the progress. The only question now is what kind of moustache should I grow?

Spa wired and full of water

2586So Saturday morning the electrician turned up and by lunchtime the new spa was powered. The boys and I jumped in and started to clean the inside. Once we cleaned it, I started to fill it and by 8pm it was full.

We fired up the filter and started to heat it. It was 20 degrees when we headed for bed on Saturday night. By Sunday morning it had reached 28 degrees. Everyone put their costumes on an jumped in. The wait was well worth it!

Happy Birthday To Me!

2534On Saturday I turned 34! Trudy and the boys took me to the Sydney Tower Restaurant for lunch. I haven't been for ages, the food is OK, but the view is what you really pay for.

2556 2565

We all ate way too much (I had too many cakes!) and then had a nice walk around the city to try and walk it off. (didn't really work!)

Early birthday present

2525Its my Birthday tomorrow, and I got one of my presents a day early! Still a little weepy and scabby at the moment!

Spa Delivery

2489 At 9am this morning a huge crane turned up to put our new spa in the backyard. It was a bit of a squeeze, but the crane managed to make it into our driveway.

Trudy was a bit scared to watch them crane it over the house, but I had to see it. Setting up the crane seemed to take about 30 minutes and actually putting it in the backyard took about 5 minutes. Trudy headed next door for a cup of coffee with the neighbor. She didn't realise that the crane passed right over the neighbors house!

2498 Its still empty at the moment (gotta get a sparky out to power it up), but soon we will have a place to float around and relax.

Next step is the roof and the deck. This hopefully should be passed by council early next week.

New house project

OK so we lived through the our last big house reno. So on the weekend we started the next big project. Making the backyard more livable!

We are building a nice enclosed area in the backyard, with a raised deck. At the end of the deck we are putting a nice big spa! The first thing we need is a slab. The guys turned up at 7am Saturday and where finished just after lunch.

Next step... the spa!

Me and an iPod Touch

One of my mates from work just returned from the states and he was lucky enough to pick up an iPod Touch. This thing is sweet as! I just had to get a picture of me holding it for bragging rights.

No more outdoor advertisments

This story from Boing Boing. Wouldn't it be cool/weird if all the outdoor adverts disappeared!

"Back in December, 2006, the mayor of the 11-million-person Brazilian city of Sao Paulo banned all outdoor billboard advertising, citing advertisers' unwillingness to comply with the city's rules on what sort of billboards can be placed where. Now the rule is in effect, and Flickr user Tony de Marco has documented the eerie sight of a city stripped bare of commercial visuals."

Its like a set from a dark futurist sci-fi flick.

Trip to Queensland

We returned from a short break on Monday morning from Queensland. It had been ages since we visited Aunty Ang.

It was only four days, but we managed to cram heaps of stuff in. On Thursday we did surfers, hung out at the beach for a while and then went up Q1. The view is awesome from the top.

Then on Friday, Movieworld. Dragged the kids on heaps of rides. Superman Escape was by far the coolest.

Saturday time to hop in the car and head back into NSW to Byron Bay. Unfortunately the weather wasn't very nice but the kids still managed to have a swim. Aunty Ang took her surfboard with, and told us that she wasn't very good, she lied. She was great and didn't get dumped once. Then it started to rain :( We headed to the pub and had a great lunch.

After all of that on Sunday we just relaxed. We then got up early Monday and I had to go back to work :(

A weekend away

2238 Its been ages since we visited Trudy's parents caravan in Myola
so early (6am!!) Saturday morning we all piled into the car and headed off.

We crammed a full weeks worth of holidays into two days. We spend some time at the beach, building castles and kickin the footy about. (This kids swam, it was freezing but they insisted)

2229 Then a swim and a spot of tennis. (Trudy hadn't forgotten any of her tennis skill of course!)

My highlight was hand feeding the Rainbow Lorikeet's such a cool looking bird. The caravan park is swarming with them and if you are patient enough they will feed from your hand. Everyone had a go!

2259 2271 2241

On Sunday we headed home, stopping off at Kiama for lunch and lucky for us the monthly Kiama Seaside Markets were on. Heaps of things to look at and rides for the kids to keep them happy. After lunch we stopped of at the blowhole. Unfortunately it wasn't going too well on Sunday :(

Just as we where leaving a massive military aircraft took a sweeping pass of Kiama. Trudy grabbed the camera and managed to get one hurried shot off before it had passed.

Back home late Sunday afternoon and everyone in bed and asleep by 8.30pm. What a tops weekend!

More Matt Birthday Pictures

On the weekend we had a few of Matt's mates come over and have a bit of a party. We had a nice lunch at the club and then some fun in the games room after. (Way too much DDR)

After all that fun we headed home for a some singing and some doughnut cake.

Three weeks and then we have to do it all over again for Harrison! :)

Happy Birthday Matthew!

On Monday Matthew turned Seven! He was lucky enough to get a Nintendo DS and some games (as well as a Spidersapien, some clothes and a few other things)

He had a massive day and he didn't fight that much with his brother. (Only one month to go Harrison!) At the end of the day they both fell asleep in the same bed. In the future I am sure they will both be impressed that Mum and Dad took lots of photos like this...

Happy Birthday Dude!

Sunday, September 2, 2007

Matthews birthday is tomorrow and he was lucky enough to get one of his presents a few days early. Spidesapien!

Watch him dance!!

Nice Mullet

So the other night Trudy and I spent some time going through some old photos and found an absolute gem. Back in the day, Trudy went to a Bros concert (with a-ha supporting!) Don't judge we have all been to our share of concerts that now seem a bit dodgy. :)

Anyway she spotted Richard Wilkins and snapped this picture.

Business at the front... Party at the back! A new type of mullet, a stunned one!

Kitchen painting done!

Its great having a father in law that is a professional painter! :)

I head off to work and come back home and its all done. Well that is really it for the kitchen at the moment. The last thing we need to do is polish the floors, but we might wait a while for that.

Next is the back deck. That is gonna take even longer that the kitchen I reckon!

I'm famous... in a dorky bloggy kind of way!

So I sent a link to Ikea Hacker a few weeks ago about the Microsoft Surface table starting out its life as an Ikea Hack.

Jules from the site posted it and gave me the credit!

Cool :)

Kitchen update - Rangehood in

We purchased a rangehood about 3 months ago and it sat in a box till this weekend. Trev turned up about 10am Saturday to give me a hand installing it. I hoped we would be done by Lunch... He left at 4pm :(

The issue was that we couldn't work out the best way to attach it. We tried to drill through from the top, but with no luck. After a bit of brain storming we ended up drilling some blocks of wood to the side and drilled into the side of the cupboards. All the cutting and drilling into Trudys new kitchen made her a bit nervous!

Next was the vent, the tubing we got was about 50cm too short and of course Bunnings had no more in stock. A trip to the local plumber (who happens to me a mate of Trevs) and we got some extra pipe.

Looks great a works too, tested it out this morning with Sunday Pancakes.

Kitchen tiling now done

2124Finally got the tiles done. It only took the tiler about 4 hours. He did a great job. Now when I wash up the walls don't get wet! :)

Next job, painting... Stay tuned.

First day at school

2102On Monday Harrison and Matthew started at William Carey. I am not sure who was the most nervous mum or dad! They are so far enjoying it. Harrison's new teacher is Mrs Stone and Matthews new teacher is Mrs Smith.

Cornice done

The kitchen is nearly done. The guys came to do the cornice today...

It looks really good, but they did leave a big mess for Trudy to clean up. She wasn't very impressed :(

So the tiler called he can't make it till next week. So hopefully by next weekend it will be closer to being finished (feels like I have been saying that for months!)

Wednesday, July 11, 2007

Cornice coming

It has been a while since I gave a kitchen update. Fingers crossed by the end of tomorrow we will have cornice. I will post some pictures once done! Even better news is that we found a tiler and he is hopefully coming later this week. By the end of this week if all goes well we could have cornice and tiles!

Bottle Rocket

I found this great comic on how to make your own bottle rocket. So yesterday the boys and I had a go at building one. I was very surprised the first time it worked. I was holding it at an angle and it took off from the backyard, cleared he house and landed in the front yard! Some advice. Don't worry about trying to bend the coat hanger, just hold it instead.

Tuesday, June 26, 2007

Out my way there aren't many nice parks for the kids to play in. So when we got a note from the local council asking us what we would like built on a vacant block of land on our street we responded with a park. About 6 months later the council had finished it. A great new park with swings, a slide, a flying fox and heaps of room to run around. They also built some chairs for the parents to sit and relax and circled it with a concrete path for the kids to ride their bikes on.

It lasted about 5 months without any graffiti, that was until about a week ago when the "Bonnyrigg Boyz" thought it would be cool to tag all over it.

I was a teenager once, I get it, your bored on a Saturday night with nothing to do and no money so you hang around the streets looking for entertainment. Can I make a suggestion? Don't trash an area that gives kids enjoyment, try and remember the first time you had a swing or a slide in a playground.

P.S Anyone got any ideas on what will remove permanent marker from metal?

Hornet and the mud

So after all the rain we had over the weekend I thought I would get the car going in the backyard. I fitted some new tires so I had some real grip. It was heaps of fun and the dog got a real workout :) What did the car look like afterwards?

Non Transforming, Transformer

1988Everyone is getting excited about the new Transformers Movie that is coming out soon. As usual the local Target has stacks of merchandise for the new film. The strangest item? A transformer action figure... THAT DOESNT CHANGE INTO ANYTHING Sounds like marketing gone mad!

Isla's Christening

1964Last weekend Isla was christened. It was good to see all the family members together and civil to each other :) . The priest reminded me of the Rowan Atkinson character from Four Weddings and a Funeral. He was a bit bumbling! The rest of the photos are here.

Super Hornet in the leaves

Havin heaps of fun with my new toy. I already have a spare parts shopping list:

  • Front steering arms (bent!)

  • Rear axle (also bent!)

  • Read Tyres (zero grip left)

  • Ball grease for the diff

Harrison made the Soccer team!

Harrison is now a member of the Mount Pritchard Public School soccer team. He has had his first game. A hard fought 2 all draw versus West Busby Public School. Onya Harrison!!

Pool and Spa Expo

1861As in this previous post we are still shopping for a pool or a spa. Last week we saw an advertisement for thePool expo at Darling Harbour.

Heaps of awesome pools on display. We really like the swim spas. Kinda the best of both worlds! The 2 leading contenders are spas from Monarch and Infinity Swim Spa

There are 2 ways that you swim in them. Either with the jets holding you in place or with a harness. Every time I think of swimming with a harness I can see Ralph Wiggum swimming and saying "This doesn't feel good!"

Super Hornets first drive

I forgot the sound they make! That sound brings back so many childhood memories.

Super Hornet nearly ready

1828Just need to clean up the cables, charge the battery and its ready to go!

Camden School Fete

Woke up to a gorgeous day today and headed off to the dentist. (YEAH!!!) We then went out to Narellen to look at pools. We ended up looking at Spas instead, nice cheesy ones with flashing LEDs, but still kinda cool.

Anyway, after that we stopped of at Camden for Lunch. The local school was having a fund raising fete. I had forgotten what these where like. Lots of sticky toffee, fairy floss, White Elephant stalls and rides.

Most schools don't have these anymore due to the insurance costs being too high. It was cool to see a group of parents and teachers that were happy to give one a go.

Super Hornet

1689I remember getting a Hornet as a kid. Cool RC car! I am building a Super Hornet at the moment. These new release Super Hornets are very different from the one I had as a kid.

The Plastic shell is a lot thicker (hopefully it can take more punishment!) At the moment I have just put on the stickers and built the back diff. I just got the radio gear and the battery yesterday. Fingers crossed I will have it ready ro race for the weekend.1693

Happy Mothers Day!

413Today is a special day! We show the mothers in our lives what they mean to us. Don't forget to give your mum a smooch today. (the picture is of Trudy and her idol. This picture is now in a nice frame and sitting on top of our microwave. It gives Trudy cooking inspiration)

Kitchen update - All doors done... but...

1747So finally all the doors are hung finally, but...

The kitchen guys forgot to do one of them. :( There is a door that swings the wrong way (we can’t open it fully because it crashes into the pantry). They are due back today to fix it and to build a vent box in the cupboard for the rangehood but Trudy and I aren’t holding our breath. These dudes aren’t the most reliable people!

Tuesday, May 8, 2007

Kitchen Update - Power on

1819Finally... POWER!! That means tomorrow morning at breakfast I can boil the kettle AND toast at the same time! How modern.

Monday, May 7, 2007

Empty Cinema

1816The boys and I went to see Meet The Robinsons today. Trudy shopped instead :) . The movie was good, but the best part was that at the 11am showing it was just the 3 of us in the cinema! I think most people wanted to see Spiderman 3 instead. Cause we where all alone we could chat and eat our snacks as loud as we wanted.

Kitchen Update - Glass Mosaic Tiles

1813 Back to the tile shop today. We purchased some Glass Mosaic tiles. The white tiles with the browns and oranges in the middle are going to make the splashback sing! Still waiting for the electrician, the plasterer (for the cornice) and the kitchen guys to come back and fix some doors on. This kitchen seems to be taking forever! :(

Kitchen dream/nightmare

Last night I had a scary dream about our kitchen renovation. It went like this...

The builders came back to install the range hood and to change the cupboard doors that hang above it. This was done while I was at work.

I came home that night to see how cool it looked. The builders had extended the cupboard length and installed the range hood leaving about a 1cm gap between that range hood and the cooktop!

When I approached Trudy about this her response was "I don’t want to upset the builders by pointing out the issue, let’s just live with it".

This reno is really affecting me! :)

Kitchen Update FREE TILES!!!

1810 Its great having a family member that is in the building industry! So today Trudy's Dad managed to get us 50 massive tiles (250mm x 400mm) from some tiler that over ordered.

We are going to get some nice mosaic tiles to go with them. Hopefully within 2 weeks the splashback will be done.

Wednesday, May 2, 2007

1804I spent some time at CeBIT today it was very geeky! The highlights for me? Using the code on my phone to register. (by holding up the screen of my mobile to an OCR thingy)

The other highlight? The 108 inch telly! (Sorry about the shaky picture I was just soooo excited)

p.s That Alastair doing the human reference size thing

We don't want to hear it!

To the 3 girls in the last carriage on the 5.25pm train leaving Wynyard tonight we don't care what cool music you have on your phone. GET A PAIR OF HEADPHONES!!

Go Fifi!

1801So tonight is the final of Dancing with the stars This morning on my way to work I spotted some sky writting. I am not really a big fan of the show, but Fifi is the outsider and she has made it all the way to the final. Go Fifi!!

Trip to City with Chloe

On the last day of the School Holidays Harrison, Matthew and Chloe had a trip to the City. They had lunch at Darling Harbour and then a walk around Circular Quay. Chloe and Harrison seemed to fight about most things. Think back to your own childhood and remember what fighting with a Girl or a Boy in your class usually meant :) . 1783

Kitchen Update Gas and Water on

We are soooo close to having a fully functional kitchen. The Water and Gas are on so no more Microwave only meals and we can wash up in a real sink :) . We think we have picked the tiles for the splashback and hopefully the electrician will be here this week.

Thursday, April 26, 2007

Crazy Ikea!

1774 So today is Anzac Day which means its a public holiday. Most shops dont open till 1pm. Last weekend we purchased some Barstools for our new Kitchen which where too big. Trudy and I decided to get there early so we could get the kids into the play area. Bad idea! This picture shows the scene at 12.45pm. Needless to say we exchanged our stuff without looking at anything new!

Trash or Treasure?

It once served the boys well, but now their old Mac is for the trash :( This weekend is council cleanup which means piles of rubbish on everyone’s nature strip, and men (mostly) driving flatbed trucks up and down the street, picking through the junk.

UPDATE Someone collected it! I really hope they aren’t hoping to use it. It sat out in the elements for about 2 weeks before I moved it to the nature strip for collection.

Kitchen Update - Benchtops on

This morning the guys got here about 8am and now we have benchtops!

Next stop, water and electricity and then we will be all done. Trudy and I spent the rest of the day cleaning and putting stuff into our new cupboards.

Wednesday, April 18, 2007

Kitchen Update - Cupboards installed

So the cupboards are in and as you can see from this image, Trudy is very happy.

The granite guy is coming on the weekend. Hopefully by Sunday we will be back to some sense of normality.

The whole gallery is here

Jorja Turns 1

I cant believe it, Jorja has turned 1 already! A few weeks ago we went to her birthday party. The boys had a great time (mostly in the jumping castle) and Toby made an awesome cake! If the building thing doesn't work out for him he could move into the cake business The rest of the images are here

New Kitchen

1525Well after 11 years we are finally doing it! Its time for a new kitchen. Trudy's dad and I ripped out the old one (its now on the front lawn :) ) The walls have been re-clad and the floor sanded. Now all we need is the kitchen to be installed. (gonna leave this up to the professionals)

Coke and Mento

So have you heard what happens when you put Mentos into a bottle of Diet Coke? Well on the weekend we had a go at it. Truth be told it we probably shouldnt have used generic brand cola and generic mentos! :)

Happy Brad?

Yeah wordpress for the win! :)
